San Francisco Cal. Aug 4th 1863

Hon Wm P. Dole, Coms. &c

Sir
Enclosed please
find all the bids I have recd up to
1st Inst. for cattle to be delivered on the
several Reservations; I have only accepted
the bids of Hamblen & Mrs
Frame. The bids of Bliss, and
Cresswell are too high. I can purchase at
lower prices privately if permited to
do so. But I am instructed to "advertize"
and have done so; Spanish
Wild Cattle, could have been purchased
cheaper, but they are almost worthless
as they require constant herding are
of no use for milking and we generally
loose one half of them.

The bid of "Olmstead" I consider too
indeffinite to accept, as he does not
say whether he will want coin or
currency, the former I expect.
