Hon Wm P. Dole Comr Ind Aff Washington

Dear Sir Inclosed with this note you will find, an account for $2891.87/100 in favor Harvey L Beall, for fresh beef furnished the Indians, under a contract with Capt H. L Ford late "Sub Agent" for the that Reservation.

I am well acquainted with Mr. Beall and know that the account is correctly taken from the books, at the the reservation, and have no hesitation in giving full credit to what he, Mr. B and Mr. Scherpel both honor to.

I am the present supervisor of the Mendocino Reservation, and have made out the accounts in their present shape for Mr. B.

Mr. Beall I know furnished the beef as stated in the affadavits - and has furnished beef since Capt. Ford's death. - He has accounts

unsettled during Mr. Hanson's administration but not very large. I say that I know that Mr. Beall furnished the beef - I mean by it that I know the fact in the same way that I know there is such a city as Washington, although I never saw it, - but persons in whom I believe, say they have seen Washington City, and I believe them - So persons various persons have told me that they know of Beall; furnishing beef to the Indians at the Men Res - and the books kept by Scherpel, also show the fact, and that the same has not been paid - therefore I believe it.

Mr Beall informs me that he has made attempts to get the amount that the gov't is owing him, - and to my personal knowledge he is very much cramped for the want of this that the US owes him.

Will you be so kind as to answer this and if any thing is lacking in order to recover the claim, inform me what it is and I will do it, - The claim is just an ought to have been paid long ago, and if the formulary in trying to search it is defective, that does not argue against the justice of the claim.

[Right ]

I have made out triplicate papers two of which I send you, - If it is necessary to send more than one let me know.

All the employees in the Indian Depart here talk of resigning, on account of the small pay - and that in depreciated currency - Mr. Hanson has paid us off up to 1st Jan. / 63 in Legal Tenders which is worth only sixty four cents. This having all the employees in debt at the end of the quarter - I hope it may yet turn out for the best -

I remain very respectfully yours &c Wm. H. McGrew Superviosr Men Ind Res
