certify that on the twenty eight day of
October A.D. 1861, I was travelling with
J. P. H. Wentworth Supt. Agent of Indian
Affairs of So. District Cal, on official
business connected with his office, and that
the matter being urgent in order to [illegible]
our engagements with the Indians the
horses were greatly distressed by the ra-
[illegible] with which we were obliged to
drive, and that one of the

J. G. Kittredge Jr
whose name is subscribed to the annexed Instrument as a party thereto, personally known
to me to be the individual described in and who executed the said annexed instrument, and hither said
J. G. Kittredge Jr. duly acknowledged to me that he executed the same freely
and [illegible] and for the uses and purposes therein mentioned.
