Pittsburgh Nov 12th 1864

Hon W. Dole Com of Ind Affairs

Sir Yours has been just [received?] In reply I would state that I was employed on Nome Lackee Res' for the time specified in my vouchers, for said time I receive no payment. I was absent [from?] San Francisco when the matter was investigated by Supt McDuffie. I was in the Norther portion of Cala. I [wrote?] [heir?] reci'ed the letter that was sent by Supt Wentworth to your office. The latter [illegible] of McDuffie letter may explain the matter much better than I can." all the [allackes?] were paid the amounts due them but myself, you will see that Mr W N. Henly occupied the same [poretion?] as myself he has reci'ed $360.00 for his services why my claim should be placed at 24 days as more than I can comprehend for I can [ashure?] you that I [receive?] no special payments in the matter. When I went to Supt. Wentworths office I was informed that h had not received the amount due me on my claim - he informed me

that he had sent the affair to your office I stated to him the circumstances in regard to the claim, he often due enquiry informed me that he would do the best to see that I got my money from the Dept I hope that you will give the matter your favorable consideration, as the claim has been long standing the above is respectfully submitted your truly Charles Cochran
