Hon C. Cole Dear Sir Since you returned to the east & since I wrote to you twice I have heard nothing from you, which [indues?] me to write again. I am so exceedingly anxious to settle up my business with the U.S. otherwise I would not harass you with so many letters - If you have or can have a reply from Coms Dole in regard to the matter I would be pleased to hear it. If you make the settlement for me, I am to be charged with $80 recd. for a ^crippled Jack which I sold; following my instructions precisely "either privately or publickly [publicly]" - I had him sold at auction my successor has reported, as I am informed, that he was sacraficed [sacrificed] for far less than his value; but since he sent his special agent to see him, & the owner offered him for cost & keeping, he has made no fuss about him. the fact is he has only one fore leg, & the agent would not have him -, he could not travel. Having all the papers there - they can settle & make you but little trouble. Very truly as [illegible] yr friend & obt sert Hanson

Hon C. Cole My Dear Sir, As I am still informed by either yourself or Mr. Dole in regard to your negotiating a settlement with him in my behalf - I am induced again to trouble you for some information in the primises -. I fear you will regard my importunities as annoying - but I will perhaps be ex cused when I say I have no friend there in whom I can rely implicitly to do any thing for me as freely as I think you will - and my extreme anxiety to bring my public affairs to a close must serve as an apology for then troubling you so often - I must take this occasion to congratulate you, on the most auspicious meeting of Congress since the War began - I now work for a revolution in the South, as soon as it is fully understood there, that there is to be no "letting down" in the prosecution of the war by the loyal people as declared on the 8th inst. The "State right" doctrine will die of its own

weight now - some leading men in the State of N. Carolina, Georgia or Alabama is to inaugurate this revolution at the head of an army composed of Union men, rebel deserters &c tell Jeff. as "State right" men - they have "fought long enough & have suffered long enough & will return to the old flag" & others defy him on all his cohorts. Has not the Pacific done nobly? Genl Bidwell has beat his opponent badly - I only regret now you have not the place in 1st Dist. Very truly Geo. M. Hanson
