Office Indian Affairs San Francisco, October 19th 1864

Sir Yours of 13th [illegible], asking information relative to vouchers of Dr Hastings is received. I regret to inform you that I have no means as a matter of record, in my office, by which any man could tell that [illegible] was ever in charge of the Indiant Department in this State. I presume there are some traces of his administration somewhere (at least there should be) but I have not been able to find them. Consequently, I am unable to render you any assistance in the premises

Very Respectfully Your obt Srvt Austin Wiley Supt. Ind. Affs. Cal.
