I arrived here two weeks ago, and have been busy since arranging terms of treaty with the different tribes of indians in this Section that have been at war with the whites for the past five years. My success has been greater than I had reason to expect, Today they brought in their guns and pistols and turned them over to me This, it was contended by the settlers, they would never do,

I will forward a copy of treaty upon my arrival at San Francisco. I should like to be informed what steps I am to take to locate a reservation further than to give settlers notice. I have no power to set a price upon ther improvments nor disposess them. I have stipulated with the indians to make a Reservation of this valley, particulars of which will be given when I have drawn diagrahm of the same
