Washington D.C.
Dec 4, 1865.

Sir
Since examining the account of
[Name?] G. M. Hanson, [illegible] of
Indian Affrais in California. I am
[illegible] that it is necessary for [Name] H.
to be present in person to make a final
settlement. The interest of the government,
as well as justice to [Name]Hason and those
who, through him, became ex-editors of the government,
require in my judgment that he
should be authorized to come to Washington
and make the explanations which are
absolutely necessary to a just determination
on the [illegible] of the government in the premises.
As one of the Representations from
California having a general knowledge
