I return herewith, the letter of
Con. J. M. Bidwell, requesting that Geo.
M. Hanson be authorized to visit
Washington for the purpose of settling his
accounts as late Superintending Indian
Agent for the Northern District of
California.
The views expess in your
commuication of the 6th inst. as to the
inexpediency of permitting Subordinte of
ficers of your Bureau. is a general rule,
to visit this city at the expense of the
Government, are approved, and without
doult should be applied in the case
of Mr. Hanson, now not in the service;
unless you should become satisfied that
