Sir

I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of 14th Dec 1864 granting authority to purchase clothing in event of its being deemed necessary, and requesting me to forward an estimate for the clothing and other goods required this year as soon as possible. In conformity with the request, I enclose herewith an estimate of an amount which I consider to be indispensable to the service. A much larger supply would be necessary to provide well for all the Indians in the state but I have estimated for as large an amount as I consider the appropriation will justify. They will be comparatively comfortable the coming year as a portion of the last shipment will remain in their possesion.

I have apportioned the supply to the four reservations under my charge and respectfully request that it be put up separately thereby saving much labor and re packing and consequent delay. I wish the goods all invoiced to me but so marked as to designate the packages for each reservation.
