Commissioner of Ind Affairs Washington DC
Sir In February last I presented to the Indian department claims for services rendered by myself and wife in Cal under superintendent John at [illegible] in the northern district of Cal in 1860. My claim of $300 was duly audited and payment made in due time. The claim of my wife for $200 fo services rendered at the same time and place Nome Lacke Reservation I have never heard from at all, altho [although?] I have Commissioner Dole's receipt for the vouchers. My papers never accompanied by a note from the Hon John [illegible] requesting and [illegible] settlement of the same. There is also a letter on file in the department from late superintendent Steele vouching for their correct-ness, and the justice of the claim - The services were rendered and [illegible] are on account of [sickness?] in great need of our just dues, I refer you to Hon Senator Conness = Your early attention to the above, is most respectfully solicited Your servts John S Welton and Georgiana Welton
