Office Indian Affairs, Cal San Francisco April 11th 1866
H.B. Hunt Esq
Dear Sir
Your letter of March 26th ult, was received at this office during my absence on a visit to the Southern portion of the State on official business. I have been unable to find on an examination of the papers on file in this office any statement of your account or papers [illegible?] [illegible?] to it. I think that Mr Steele former Superintendent forwarded it with the accounts of his office to the Department at Washington.
I would advice that you write to Genl Bidwell give him a statement of the matter and request him to call at the Indian Department as I think he will be able obtain information in [illegible?] to it, and secure an order for the payment of the claim.
Yours Respectfully Charles Maltby Supt. Indian Affairs
