Seed Catalogue and Garden Guide.

Mammoth Prize Taker,
or Spanish King-This largest of all onions was introduced by a Philadelphia seed firm four years ago and has proved a splendid acquisition. It is admitedly[admittedly] the largest of all varieties, having been grown to the enormous weight of OVER SIX POUNDS, and is withal a handsome, fine flavored sort. Of a clear, bright straw color and uniform, perfect globe-shape, with small neck, which ripens well up to the bulb, without any stiff necks. Produces enormous crops, one report being over 1,200 bushels, and they bring an extra price, being sold on the market as fancy onions. Keeps wonder fully well. The one objection is that it produces very little seed, and the pure seed of Mammoth Prize Taker will always be high in price. Our seed is unexcelled. Per pkt. 10c; oz. 40c; ¼ lb. $1.25; lb. $4.00.

MAMMOTH SILVER KING—The Mammoth Silver King Onion grows to a most remarkable size. The bulbs are of attractive form, flattened, but thick through, as shown in the illustration. The average diameter of the onions are from 5 to 7½ inches-thus making the circumference from 15 to 22 inches. Single bulbs often attain weights of from 2½ to 4 lbs. each. The skin is a beautiful silvery white; the flesh is snowy white, and of a particularly mild and pleasant flavor. So sweet and tender is the flesh that it can be eaten raw, like an apple. The Silver King matures early, and is uniformly of large size and perfect form. Per pkt. 10c; oz. 25c; ¼ lb. 80c; lb. $2.70.

COPPER KING or Mammoth Pompeii—Undoubtedly the largest variety in existence, excepting only our Prize Taker, having been grown to the enormous weight of FIVE POUNDS AND SIX OUNCES, and notwithstanding their large size they retain their shape and fine quality, and do not become ungainly monstrosities. To obtain some idea of how large this really is, just weigh the largest onion you can obtain and compare weights, or weigh out five pounds and six ounces of common onions and imagine them all in one. The Ohio Experiment Station reports a yield of 1,428 bushels to the acre, which is about double the yield of Red Wethersfield on the same farm. They are a beautiful copper color; flesh pure white, fine grained and mild. Per pkt. 10c; oz. 25c; ¼ lb. 75c:[;] lb. $2.50.
