MAGNIFICENT FLORAL NOVELTIES.

Everyone who has even a small space for flowers should include in their order some of the grand bulbs illustrated on the reverse side of this plate and described below. They are of the easiest culture, and sure to please everyone.

ROYAL QUEEN GLADIOLUS.

We do not hesitate to call this by far the finest and largest flowering variety of Gladiolus ever introduced. It originated with Mr. John Kurtzweil, of Greenfield, Iowa, the father of the vice-president of the Iowa Seed Company, who has been growing bulbs for us about fourteen years, and makes a special study of Gladiolus, growing probably more bulbs each year than anyone west of New York State. The Royal Queen was produced from seed saved from crossing some of the choicest varieties, and is the best one among the thousands of seedlings, and far superior to any of the named varieties. The bulb, or corm, is usually very large, producing a strong, stiff flower stalk about three feet high. The flower spike is very long and well filled out on all sides. The flowers are of a clear, pearly white ground, striped and splashed with a rich carmine, shading to a rosy purple, most beautifully blotched and marbled, and of a delicate, velvety texture It is not affected by the heat and blooms freely. Our illustration represents the center of spike, about one third the full length. If you want something extra fine don’t fail to try the Royal Queen. We have made the price very low so that all could purchase. Only 25c. each, postpaid.
Gladiolus Seed.—Choicest mixed; will bloom second year. Per pkt. 8c.

NEW FRENCH CANNAS.

GLADIOLUS FLOWERED.
It is well known to most of our customers that greater improvements have been made in French Cannas than any other class of plants. The many beautiful varieties raised and sent out by M. Crozy have made rapid strides in popular favor, and the demand for them is everywhere on the increase. These improved kinds yield a most gorgeous display, totally eclipsing the older varieties, and keeping up a succession of bloom from June to the end of September.
Madam Crozy.—This grandest of all sorts is well shown on our colored plate, but no work of the artist can reveal the great beauty of this unequalled sort. The immense flower head, of the deepest vermilion red, gold bordered, is double the diameter of a Gladiolus spike, closely filled with flowers, and these flower spikes or heads follow each other so rapidly that the plant is always in bloom. The petals are very wide and broadly round ed. It is especially in this size of individual flowers that Madam Crozy excels all Cannas. The spikes contain from twelve to twenty-five flowers in full bloom at one time, and when it is considered that each plant will have from three to six spikes of bloom open at one time, some idea may be had of their exceeding beauty. The plant is dwarf, seldom exceeding four feet in height, but the foliage is massive and of a pleasing light green color. The Madam Crozy has already produced a great sensation among flower lovers. It has heretofore been held at very high prices—$1.00 to $3.00 each—but we are pleased to be able to supply our customers now at the low price of 50c. each; three for $1.25; five for $2.00. The Crozy Cannas will bloom the first year from seed, and we can supply the seed of many varieties mixed at 10c. per pkt.
Other New Cannas.—We have a grand assortment of all the best new varieties of French Cannas, which we can furnish at 30c. each, or four for $1.00, postpaid.

Tuberous Rooted Begonias.

Of all the introductions of recent years, none have received a heartier welcome than the giant-flowered, Tuberous Rooted Begonias, which have been brought to wonderful perfection. These flowers sometimes grow six inches in diameter, are borne upright on stiff stems, and out-rival in colors the most brilliant or dazzling Geranium flowers. Neither brush nor pen can do justice to these magnificent new flowers. The immense size of the individual blossoms, their remarkable richness and variety of color, their grand substance and unsurpassed blooming qualities, cannot be overestimated, and in the new race here offered these characteristics have reached their climax. We have had many of these flowers grown in an ordinary way that measured four and one half inches in diameter. Our illustration simply shows the form and coloring, but not the size. In England, where they are well known, they are the most popular bedding plants, and the accompanying illustration shows a row of these plants. The season of flowering is fully six months long. The first blossoms appear in early spring, and until late in the fall, flowers are continuously produced. They are of the richest colors, embracing every shade of white, rose, pink, red, scarlet, crimson, maroon, lake, yellow and orange, and combine the richest shades and the intermediate colors, certainly a great point in their favor. Tuberous Begonias are well adapted to almost any kind of culture. They may be grown in pots, boxes or baskets, out of doors or under glass, or in the open ground. The thick structure of the plants enables them to withstand wet and stormy weather, as well as tropical heat and drouth. Another valuable feature of these Begonias is that they possess the beautiful and abundant foliage which is characteristic of the family. With the exception of the Geranium, there is no plant that can produce so gorgeous a display of rich and varied colors as the Begonia when grown in masses, and all who grow them will come to this conclusion. They are excellent plants for house culture, and make splendid beds on the lawn. The bulbs can be taken up and kept in a dry, warm place through winter as easily as a potato. Don’t fail to try them. We take pleasure in recommending them to our customers.
