I William P Underwood Clerk
of the County Court of Surry County in the state of Virginia do hereby
certify that [struck: Sally alias Sally Spratley (or Judkins)
a free negro aged] Parke alias Parke Charity a
(free negro) aged thirty two years and upwards of
light complexion has a scar of the left hand near
the thumb and one near the Corner of the left eye
a full face was born free in the County of Surry
as appears by a former Certificate of the Clerk of
this Court now surrendered in my office five feet four
and a quater inches high, and that he is again
registered of the above description in the Clerks office
of Surry County Cour,t by order of said Court this day
made.
Given under my hand and the seal of said
Court this 23rd day of November 1857

certify that Mary alias Mary Hart (daughter of
Hannah a slave emancipated by the last will and
testament of Nicholas T. Hart bearing the date on the 8th
of June 1836 and duly recorded in the Clerks
office of the said County Court of Surry (a copy of
which is hereto annexed) aged eighteen years and
upwards of light complexion has no marks or scars
on her face, head or hands, was born free in the County
of Surry as appears satisfactorily to the Court is five
feet 1 inch high and that she is registered of
the above description in the Clerks office of Surry County
Court by order of said Court this day made.
Given under my hand and the seal of said Court
this 23rd day of November 1857

I agree that the name, alias, and identifiers were struck out and added the [struck: text] (Sally Spratley married Willie Judkins in Surry on November 10th 1854. ) Sct and ss are the abbreviation for Scilicet which means to wit or namely in Latin. So, we will often see Sct or ss or to wit following the court named in documents.
