The Committee of Privileges and Elections have, according
to order, proceeded to the examination of Robert Shedden, who
was apprehended on Suspicion of his being inimical to the
Rights and Liberties of America: And it appears to your
Committee, that at a Court of Commissioners held, in the County of
Norfolk on the 3rd day of April last, for the trial of the said
Robert Shedden as being an Enemy to America; a Jury was thereupon
sworn, who returned a Verdict in the following words "We the Jury
find Mr. Robert Shedden not Guilty." And, it appears to your
Committee from the testimony of Mr. Wilson that he was
with the Party who apprehended the said Robert Shedden and
carried him to the Great Bridge for his trial, that at the
time he was taken, he said Shedden made an attempt to get
to the Fleet, with intention as he said to carry there one Walker,
who it was supposed was inimical, and that he said Shedden
informed the Deponent, his motive for endeavouring to carry off
the said Walker proceeded from his having employed him as his
Clerk & that he had no other person to take care of his goods on
board the Fleet, and that the Deponent and his party fired on
the Vessel several times, before the said Shedden & the persons
with him submitted to be taken, and that the Deponent was among
the party who apprehended the said Shedden afterwards,
when he was sent up to the Publick Goal.

It appears to your Committee from the testimony of
Major Francis Eppes, that he was ordered by Major Gen'l Lee to
apprehend & send the said Shedden with others to the publick
Goal, that he does not know, whether the said Shedden hath
done any thing inimical to the American Cause, but hath
been informed, that the said Robert Shedden, since his
trial before the Court of Commissioners, hath been on board
the Fleet under the protection of L'd Dunmore.

It also appears to your Committee from the
information of Mr. [Cooper?], that he receievd a letter from the
said Robert Shedden, informing him that
he heard L'd Dunmore intended to apprehend Mr. [Cooper?] and
