Transcription
This deed made the 11th day of February 1861, between Daniel
Williams, (a free man of colour) of the one part and Edgar Whitehead,
of the other part: Witnesseth:
That to said Williams, for and in consideration of the sum of Fifty
dollars to him in hand paid by the said Whitehead, the receipt whereof
is hereby a [illegible? ] bo[?]ed; doth hereby grant, bargain, sell and convey unto
the said Whitehead & his heirs, & assigns forever, in the simple absolute
with [?general] warranty, a parcel of land, lying in the County of Amherst
adjoining the land of John N. Williams, & [Wm. ?Gehee?] containing
one & three quarters acres: being the [illegible] land bought of Peter C. [Ha??ard]
by the said Williams & conveyed by deed duly recorded in the County
court of Amherst County: To have & to hold the said land with all the
appurtenances thereunto belonging with the said Whitehead and his heirs
and assigns forever.

City of Lynchburg To wit:
This day Daniel Williams, party to the
foregoing deed, dated the 11th of February 1861, personally appeared
before the undersigned, a Justice of the Peace in and for said
City, and acknowledged the same to be his act & deed.
Given under my hand the 11th February 1861.
