This Indenture made 4th June 1790 between Danl. L. Hylton of Henrico County of the one part & Francis Eppes of Chesterfield County of the other part, Witnesseth, that whereas the said Francis Eppes on the Seventh day of July 1774 became bound with the said Danl L Hylton as security in an obligation to the amount of Fourteen hundred & eighty eight pounds five Shillings & 9d [pence] sterling money with lawful Interest thereon till paid to Farell & Jones Merchts [merchants] in Bristol of the Isld [Island] great Britain, in order to secure & indemnify the said Francis against the payment of the said sum of Fourteen hundred & eighty eight pounds five shillings & 9d [pence] & in consideration of the sum of five shillings to him in hand paid, he the said Danl L Hylton hath granted, bargain'd sold confirmd & by these presents doth bargain sell & confirm unto the said Francis Eppes his heirs exec.rs administrators or assigns forever, the following Negroes & their increase to Wit: Abel, Amey, Isabel, Alice, Charles, Tom. Jef, James, Bob, Juno, Sukey, Rachel, Robin, Edmund, Phill, Dublin, Fanny, Betty, Beck, Nelson, John, Clarenda, Milan, Peter, Roger, Dick, George, Rose, Lucky, Jack, Billy, Jacob, Mingo, Durham, Syphax, Juba, Neptune, also the following stock to wit: thirty two head of cattle, sixty sheep two grey & two bay mares, two Grey Horses, one Roan Horse two brown bay ditto, two bright bay horses, also the following articles to Wit: One chariot & Harness, one Waggon & gear six beds & furniture, one Mahogany desk & book case, one mahogany press, one dozen green Windsor Chairs & one dozen Mahogany d.o [ditto: chairs] to have & to hold the said Negroes with their increase & other premises unto the said Francis Eppes his heirs exec.rs, administrators or assigns forever, & the said Danl. L. Hylton doth for himself his heirs, exec.rs, administrators & assigns covenant & agree to & with the said Francis Eppes

his heirs exec.rs administrators, That he the said Danl L Hylton will warrant & forever defend the said granted & sold Negroes & other premisses with their & every of their Issues against the title & Claims of of every person whatever, upon this express condition, Nevertheless that of the said Danl L Hylton, shall pay or cause to be paid unto the said Farell & Jones their lawful Agents, heirs, execu.rs, administrators or assigns the aforesaid sum of Fourteen hundred & eighty eight pounds five shillings & 9d [pence] sterling money when he shall be thereto required or shall sufficently iddemnify & secure the sd [said] Francis Eppes against the payment of the same, that then this Indenture shall be void & of no effect, otherwise than shall be good and valid to the intent & for the purposes before set forth & specified Given under my hand & seal this 4 th day of June 1790 Danl. At a monthly court held for Henrico County at the courthouse the 7th day of June 1790. This Indenture of Mortgage was acknowledged by Daniel Lawrence Hylton one of the parties hereto & ordered to be Recorded. Teste Adam Craig C.C
