An Indenture made and entered into on this
sixth day of August of the year one thousand
eight hundred and forty four by and between
Abraham James Brown a free man of color of
the City of Richmond of the first part - A Judson
Crane of the said city of the second part and
Samuel Anderson a free man of color of the
third part - Whereas the said Anderson hath
this day sold & conveyed unto the said Brown a
certain piece of ground lying in the city of Richmond
by a part of lot No 736 for cash as he may
require the same - and whereas he has taken the
Bond of the said Brown for $400 payable on demand
dated of the date of his Indenture, and whereas
the said Brown is desirous to secure the payment
of the said Bond to the said Anderson so that
no default be made him Now therefore this
Indenture Witnesseth that for and in consideration
of the sum of $5 in hand have to the the said Brown
by the said Crane at and before the signing of
ensealing of these presents the receipt whereof is hereby
acknowledged, the said Brown hath sold and
conveyed and doth by these presents sell and
convey unto the said Crane a certain piece
or parcel of ground lying in the City of Richmond
