I do have a question - if the way they were freed doesn't specify born free or free born but free based on affirmation of someone, how do we log that?
Also is the Registration number at the top of the entry or at the end?
Hi. If the entry does not specify how the individual became free (born free or emancipated by deed, will, or decree of court) leave the "free status" field blank. You can add any supplementary information about statements of other individuals in the "additional information" field. Witness testimony or affidavit statements (affirmation) by other individuals are not how someone became free, just proof of free status.
Looking at the first page of this register, it looks like the clerk is putting the registration at the top of each entry.
Hope this helps!
