Is there a way to go back in the ledger to see headings for the columns?

The Library of Virginia

That is a very good question! You can use the arrow buttons in the top right corner, just under the document title, to go back to previous pages in the ledger.

Thanks! Where there is a number that looks to be written over another, and I can't tell which it is meant to be, should I put [illegible] or put my best guess and a question mark, or what? Also, I'm assuming that "So'ton" is "Southampton"?

KBmichie

Also, where the emancipation status has "emancipated by" with a name followed by "Ex," should I assume the "Ex" is for "Executor" and select that it was "emancipated by will"?

The Library of Virginia

If you can read the number with some degree of certainty, go ahead and enter it with a [?] after the digits. If you really can't tell what it is meant to be, [illegible] is the best option.

Yes, "emancipated by Ex." sounds like a good match to "emancipated by will." Thanks for checking in!
