This deed, made the 7th day of October, in the year 1856, between James C. Hunt, party of the first part; Joseph Campbell, a colored man, party of the second part; and John F. [?D]ale, executor of Henry S. Langhorne, deceased, party of the third part, witnesseth; that by a deed dated on the [blank spot]day of [blank spot] in the year 185[?], [blank] and of record in the clerk's office of Amherst County Court, the said Campbell, in order to secure to the said Lawhorne the payment of the sum of $57.91/100 [blank] did convey, in trust, to the said Hunt, a certain piece of land lying in the county of Amherst on or near James River, and in the neighborhood of the city of Lynchburg, it being the land which the said Campbell purchased of John A. Moseby, on the 22nd of July, 1851, containg one-eighth of an acre, more or less, and bounded as follows: beginning at John Burfor[?]'s line on James river, running with the said line to the public sand; thence with the said road 50 yards; thence straight to the river; thence down the river to the beginning.

Now, whereat, the said sum of money has been fully paid, and the said Joseph Campbell desires the said piece of land to be released to him, therefore this [?day] further witnessing that the said James C. Hunt, in consideration of the promises, and by the consent of the said John F. [?Gale], executor of Henry S. Langhorne, deceased, testified to by him becoming a party to this deed, and signing and sealing the same, doth grant and release unto the said Joseph Campbell the said piece of land, together with its appertances. The said John F. Hale, executor of Henry S. Langhorne, deceased, release to the said Campbell all his claims upon the said land. Witness the following signatures and seals: Jas. C Hunt Jno. F.
