I do certify that Charlotte Dean lived in my father's
family from the time of his marriage until Mr Brown purchased
her. She was considered a faithful servant a good nurse and every way
qualified to make herself useful. She has hitherto led a quiet and peaceable
life and should she be permitted to remain in Richmond I am
confident it would not be regretted. Her chief occupation would be
nursing the sick in which I think she would be particularly useful
in this place.

I have been long acquainted with Charlotte Dean
and believe her to possess an excellent character.

I fully concur in the above certificate
concerning the good character of servant Charlotte. James Blair

I most cheerfully concur in
the above testimonials of Charlotte's character

I have been acquainted with Charlotte Deane, and think
her disposition, character & conduct very good. I think she
might be safely permitted to remain in Richmond.

Having been acquainted with Charlotte Dean for many years, during
which time I have had a very good opportunity of forming a correct
opinion of her character. I shall do her but an act of justice
in saying, that I consider her character to be very fair, that
she has been a faithful and valuable slave, and that her
qualifications as a nurse, would render her residence among
us, a benefit rather than an injury to our community, while
her age (precluding the probability of her having children,)
removes one of the strongest objections to allowing free women of
colour to remain in the Commonwealth.

I have known Charlotte Dean for some six or
eight years, a part of which time she was in my
employment and am of opinion that she is honest
and well deserving the the character of a good
servant.
