SUMMARY OF MILITARY OCCUPATIONS: INFANTRY UNIT COMMANDER: Officer commanded an 81 mm Mortar Section in the 99th Infantry Division European Theatre. Officer was responsible for the security, tactical employment, training and combat activities of a unit, consisting of 18 enlisted men. Officer acted as Forward Observer for the Section, made estimates of situations and issued fire orders depending upon tactical requirements.
UNIT OFFICER, TRAINING CENTER: After the cessation of hostilities in Europe, Officer commanded a Platoon of Infantry trainees at Fort McClellan, Alabama. Duties consisted of training, supply, welfare and morale and discipline of a unit averaging 50 men Officer Taught classes of 200 men in the nomenclature, mechanical operation; maintenance and tactical employment of weapons.
AUTHORIZED: American Campaign Medal, European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with Bronze Battle Stars for participation in Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe campaign, Combat Infantry Badge and World War II Victory Medal.
AWARDED: Silver Star Medal for Gallantry in action against the enemy.
