MILITARY EDUCATION: AAF Technical School, Goloshoro [Goldsboro?], N.C., Airplane Mechanic (Bomber), 15 Weeks, 1943
Instruction was specialized in A-20 type of aircraft. This AAF manufacturer's
course was designed to give advanced and detailed instruction in the general
maintenance of the designated type of bomber aircraft. Special emphasis was placed
on engine changes, inspection procedures, general trouble shooting, and maintenance
and repair of such units as landing gears, electrical and hydraulic systems, and
structural assemblies.

CIVILIAN OCCUPATIONS: Farmer, General Operated a small farm of 15 cultivated acres for 6 years
before entering Army in 1942. Planted and harvested corn, tobacco, and cotton.
Raised cows, hogs and chickens for home use. Did rough carpentry work and painting.
Repaired and maintained farm tools.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: and electrical and hydraulic systems. Course also included engine test
block operation.

AAF Technical School, Fort Myers, Fla., Flexible Gunnery, 6 Weeks, 1943
Instruction included training and practice in the operation and maintenance of
caliber .50 machine guns and the turret in which specialization was given. Special
emphasis was placed on the theory and use of deflection firing. Course also included
practice in using gun cameras and in firing machine guns, both on the ground and
during 16 to 20 hours of actual flying.
