information-about-overseas-service: He reported to Fort Meade on Dec. 26th 1943 and was shipped overseas about Jan. 5th. 1944. Joined the 3rd Division and received his baptism of fire at the Anzio Beachhead. Fought through Italy, was in the outfit which captured Rome. Taken from the Fifth Army and joined the newly formed Seventh Army. Was in the invasion of Southern France and fought through all campaigns until they reached Besançon France where he met his death. Was a member of the Third Division (30th Infantry) (Co. I) during his entire overseas service.
