Manhattan Kansas March 11. 1872. [Chopin?] But. Col. U.S.A. [Culpeper. Va?] Dear Sir, Your application as accompanying reccomendations have been duly read and were by me laid before the Board of Regents at their recent meeting. The high commendations of your friends and especially of Rev [Geo. W.?] Peterkin, make me personally desirous of receiving your services but when the case came before the Board , actuated I presume by the limited income of the college, the President was directed to apply to the War Dept. for a detail of a suitable person to fill the chair of Military Science & Tactics. Should this application fail, and the income of the college warrant, I shall cordially advocate your appointment. Respectfully, R D Parker Sec

Manhattan Kansas June 17. 1875 [Gurden?] Chopin, Culpeper Va. With Kind Regards Very Respectfully, R. D. Parker Sec
