Gentlemen, The books reached me yesterday, when I had given them up. I have now half a volume, which I send in order to prevent delay, but I regret that you do not give me more time. I hope the proof reader will pay great attention, for [George's ?] editors in correcting many old blunders has made many new ones. I have greatly improved the style, though much more might be done, had I time to remodel the sentences. You will have the rest next week. Yours very truly J. Fenimore Cooper Wednesday 6th April 1831 Messrs Colburne & Bentley
