Sunday May 3. 1896 Matlock Bath. Eng. My Darling Clarence, I have been very sick, sicker the day with you on board ship sail of nervous collapse, together with a terrible cold & neuralgia. We landed yesterday morning but I scarcely knew any thing about it, I was so ill. Got up to Matlock at about 2 o'clock, I went to bed and have just got up at 4 o'clock this afternoon Sunday, then just sent a messenger down for the [Howe ?] girls, as they have called twice to see me and I have been too sick

Here they come now - so good bye dear for the present; Monday Morning May 4. '96 Good morning, dear one, Today the sun shines and I am better, the Howes stayed to tea with us and spent the evening, Old Mrs. Howe Lena & Connie - We had such a nice time - Of course they tease me a great deal but I don't mind. Some other people declare you are handsome - possum. I think we shall probably set off for Torquay - Devonshire - day after tomorrow. - Tonight we go to the Howes. The weather is heavenly, "the ideal spring", not such as we have a jump from winter into summer Forget me nots & violets in bloom and such choirs of happy birds. We are just a month ahead of the time you arrived last year. Mr & Mrs [Zyrek ?] are so kind and lovely and there are at least 14 dogs to fit around the house. Now darling, I must say goodbye - for Papa is urging me to come out for a little walk with him. Don't work hard, my blessing. Your loving little girl
