My darling sweet Barbara
I am very unhappy as I
write this. I cabled you a week ago, &
confidently expected a reply by now, but none
has come. It is heartbreaking that these
things are so slow, but I suppose we
shall have to get used to it. It is nearly
two months now that I have had no news
of you at all, & it would make so much
difference if I could only know that you
are safe & well - & where you are &
what you are doing. I can't think about
anything else at all.

We arrived in this country ten days ago
& Rex, Mac & I obtained leave up to Cairo
last Thursday. We all sent cables off the
same day - & Mac had a reply from his
