Letter no. 24

16 Mar 41
Sunday.

Dearest darling - your 23 letter arrived
yesterda, that of course, made all the
difference to my day, & is still making me
tingle. So I will just write my weekly
letter card now. They are rather unsatisfactory
in a way, these things, because there is
so little room & I cannot get going properly
at all. I like to work myself into a bit of
a mood for writing to you - & I find
the best way of doing this is to begin
writing. And so, with these things, it
is time to stop before I have started
properly. I do hope you still enjoy &
like my letters, darling. Because I spend
so much time writing, & as far as I
have been able to see. You have, as a
husband, by far the most prolific
correspondent in the Middle East. Wherever
I go, I seem to be a source of
wonder to everybody else, on account of
my letter writing. You said in
your letter, my darling, that you could
not think how you managed to fill
so many sheets, & you were afraid

you must be repeating yourself a lot.
Please, my sweet, don't alter your letters
one bit, except to write more, & tell
me more often still that you love me
& love my love. Your letters are
perfect, & I just adore & prize them.
I'm certain I must repeate myself very
often but I cannot help it - & I do
not attempt to apologise for it. If I'm
always thinking about the same things,
I must keep on saying them from
time to time - & Im sure you will
forgive me. This is the third letter
I have written you this week, & I have
also written your mother, & Peter Caldwell,
& the Turners & Frank Macaskie. So I
am feeling very noble. I am hoping to
meet Frank on leave sometime. I have
not had any since November, & as I have
not had any been working so very
hard for the last two months. I am begining
to feel a shade jaded & stale. I do not
much want to go off by myself, & there
is nobody here. I could bear to be
with far more than an hour - two at
a time. Frank was very anxious to
see something of Palestine, & of
