6. & then sat in camp chairs, & looked at the Dead sea, & chatted & slept a little, on account of the very pleasant lunch. I forgot to say that instead of bathing, I felt & tasted the water. It felt really heavy & smooth & peculiar - & tasted foully salty, & then disgustingly bitter. The total solids in the Dead Sea water are 275 gms per liter, which is very nearly 3lbs per gallon - which is quite a lot.
I am invited down there again tomorrow evening, & to take my officers - for some drinks, & a change for them from being here - & then Mr & Mrs S. are coming back for some food. It is funny in a way, how I have commenced to mix with the nobility - or whatever you call them - the last few months. So far, those I have met have been very pleasant & friendly, & it seems, quite unconscious of their titles. Perhaps it will be necessary to revise some of my opinions.
I must begin to tell you about this company soon. It is al extremely interesting, & I could write you endlessly about them - & I will do so. But it would take me ages & this must be posted away, & so I will wait for another time - which I hope will be tomorrow. All the question of rations is one of my big troubles.

I am missing you so much, my darling - all the time - & pining for you. And I feel so very lonely without you. I hope another letter comes soon.
