Fast Day. Dear William

Glad and [were?] glad to hear from you, and your folks. I have not time to write but a word, so here it is.

We are in as good health as will [evrage?], take time together.

I coughed a piece of bone, from my wind pipe, ([underline]wine pipe[/underline]) this morning.

And I feel a great relief. My, from morning until 10 o'clock coughing exercises, ceased at [ons't?] O! And it does seem so pleasant to be able to sit and write what I have now, without being obliged to get up and cough, with all my might, 5 or 6 times, as has been the case so long - [day?] all right! is off from early dawn, until allmost night.

I have had Horace White's (George) boy all winter, excepting about 3 weeks. I had a [?] from [N.H.?] ([Top-of-leggs?]) I have engage Tho. Cobbitt to do my team work this spring, so I am all right. Remember me and [underline]us[/underline] to [Gen.?] Putt. & the other half. If you get the bloated-up disease, give us a call before is to late. yours &c Dr. Jess.

Lost Nation. March 31 /61

Dear Cousin Will.

Yours of the 7th was duly receive, it gave us much pleasure to hear from you, did not intent to be so dilatory in writing this time, but so it is, always behind but however knowing your good nature I feel sure of pardon this time at least. I am very gratefull for the [underline]sympathy[/underline] you express. it sort of releives that sensation of fullness like which one feels when over come with grief to know that even one [underline]heart beats in unison with its own[/underline] but alass for poor [Bossy?] she found an early grave. I fear she laid at heart to deeply the absence of her [underline]Rev. Tutor[/underline] from the East. she has past away like a tale that is told. Betsy calls occasionaly but with slow and measured tread, like one in dispair, poor thing? she to! I fear feels to deeply her [underline]lorrds[/underline] departure, for I think her [underline]nose[/underline] looks larger than ever.

I try to console her but she mournes like one without hope, poor soul the end I know not. he natives are all in usual health, have had no wakes since you left. think a few woul be a benefit to the [underline]Parish[/underline] don't you. Bro George was with us 4 week he left near 2 weeke ago. I feard he would prove a [underline]rival[/underline] to you but I think you need not fear for him. Betsy is [underline]true blue sure[/underline]. I have not seen Maryette and her [underline]delectable[/underline] Husband. we intended to have cald on her when on our return from the north, but the report I heard of her household management I thought would not warrant an empty stomach the rite kind of a reception for this [underline]child[/underline], they are no doubt [underline]tremingus[/underline] sweet about this time. dond you remember our invitation to eat sugar with them. I shoud think you would be on hand, sugar would taste so sweet with that [underline]carrotty haird lass[/underline] do just think of that will you? if you can without a damage to your stomach - [underline]dear boy![/underline]

John Page and George are keeping house a love I here, I guess John, bore his mothers death better than he thought he could. Sam Dixon thinks it a great blesing to John, he may be some body yet. Jim Carty has a [underline]market down town[/underline] has given up house keeping for the present. Dr has been to Ferrisburgh twice recently to see Mary Rogers. Ann Daken is buried today John Dakins Wife.

Old Johney May. has got well an sound as ever, full of fun and very frisky. Polly is up to all kinds of buisness that any body is. She sends a kiss and wishes to be kindly rememberd to all. have you been to church to day? did you have any [underline]preaching[/underline]? when are you coming to visit us? why not soon; we should be [underline]highly tickled[/underline] to see you to say nothing about Betsy [underline]poor soul[/underline]. I dont think any more to say, so the Doc. must fill the last page.

Please remember me kindly to all and let us hear from you soon

yours very truly
