Dear cousin Rachel

We had the pleasure of reading thy kind letter in the evening of the 25th which was the date of it. I have felt quite to lazy to answer it untill now about sunset; we have been to meeting it seemed small a number of members absent sister Elizabeth not able to go her health has not been very good for some time. last third day morning she was taken with severe pain which troubled her about breathing & she said her toung felt stiff & thick. she is under the Docters care is about house & out to feed chickens some but dont set up all day nor rest well nights. is much better than she was & we hope will soon be smart again but she grows very poor. looks most as thin as her Mother did a few year before she died & I fear Elizabeth will not be long lived. Oh that she & all ma be prepared for death. she said when I was there the other day this was a pleasant world, & she hated to leave it. & all was an uncertainty beyond the grave. it dont look so to me I believe there is a certainty beyond the grave & I hope with some faith that through the mercy of God I can say come wellcom death & set me free if I am favoured to know when the call is at my dore & I think I realize it ma be soon or my days ma be lengthened to years.

Fourth day the 30 last first day I commenced for a long letter but had not ambition enough to finish now I commence again

[Achsah?] has been sick is not very smart yet but so as to be about house some; William Dean has thought his knee was so lame he didnot feel like riding to Montpelier but today was our Monthly Meeting time for the committee to report that had the care of Montpelier Meeting but how could we report I think none of us had attended or even corisponded on the subject & I shouldnot think strange if Wm. Dean & wife & Andrew Homes & wife should visit you next first day & go from there to Quarterly meeting if so they ma be there before thee gets this so I shont write as much as I want to tell thee there are many things I would like to say that I cant write. I saw dear little Elizabeth Hall at Meeting to day it was heart rending to me to see the angellic little Bird & think her Mother in the Heavenly host & she left. I hope it may be for some good purpos) but fear it will be for a life of trouble; for her presant Mother complains of ill treatment from Joseph & has left him & gone to her
