Dear Mother:

Though I have not
received a letter, from
home for more than a
week, I must write thee.
Though I have not much
news to write it makes
no differrence. I am very
well still; indeed better
than is my wont. My ap-
petite is very good and
this is usually the case
with me in the Army
as it was while I was
at home. I have not
[underline]ended[/underline] a meal, without
just as good an appetite
as when I commenced it
since I came here to stop.
