The Committee on Grounds report --

That the great and increasing number of lots in Mount Auburn which are to annually sold, surveyed, and prepared graded, and especially of those which after being made are to be kept preserved in repair, -- also the many miles of paths and avenues which are to be kept in order, and the numerous applications from individual proprietors for various services; constitute collectively a duty too great to be well and advantageously performed by any one individual

They believe that it would conduce to the benefit of the corporation and the convenience of proprietors, if a new subordinate officer should be appointed, with the title of Gardener who should shall have charge of the repair of lots of proprietors and the sale of planting of flowers shrubs &c. They therefore recommend that a passage of the following By laws Gardener be forthwith appointed whose duties and tenor of office shall be defined by the adoption of the following by law.

There shall be Gardener shall be appointed annually in the same manner and at the same time as the Superintendent, whose duty it shall be to take charge of and keep

Gardener/ The Gardener under direction of the Superintendent, shall take charge of and keep in repair the lots of such proprietors as may apply to him for that service, and on such terms as may be [?] to the ]pass..?] settled agreed on between the parties; he shall also to keep for sale at some convenient place designated by the Trustees, shrubs trees & flowers, and to be ready to furnish, plant or cultivate the same, at his own expense and for such price and remuneration as may be agreed on by with the purchasers. & himself --

Article 3 of the By laws should be amended by inserting the words "a Gardener" after the words Superintendents clerk.

The Committee further recommend that a Gardener shall be appointed by this Board for the remainder of the present year as soon as a suitable person can be determined on, and that a conservatory be erected at a cost not exceeding $1200. or the piece of ground west of the Superintendent's house, and the whole be shall be leased to the gardener him him for dollars per annum, on such terms and for such time as the committee on grounds may determine
