Dear Sir

I learn from the
Supt. of Mont. Auburn that the
Trustees propose to place my
name conspicuously on the front
of the Sphinx Pedestal. As this
would be a departure from the
object and intention of the Monu-
-ment which are already expressed
on both sides of the Monument,
I respectfully request that if my
name is to appear at all on the
stone it may be made in small
and unostentatious letters on one
side of the base as I have fully
explained to the Superintendent.
