Oath of Secretary

Then personally appeared Samuel Batchelder Jr., and made oath that he would faithfully perform the duties of Secretary of the Proprietors of the Cemetery of Mt Auburn

Trustees

The regular monthly Meeting of the Trustees was held on Wednesday, , at half past three o'clock P. M.

Present, the President, and Messrs N. J. Bradlee, T. J. Bradlee, Brewer, Livermore, Norcross, Rand, Sleeper and Turner.

The record of the last Meeting was read and approved.

Com. on Finance Report of

A Report was received from the Committee on Finance, as follows:

Report of the Committee on Finance.

"The Committee on Finance would respectfully report that the newly elected officers of the Corporation, for Treasurer H. B. MacKintosh, and for Secretary Saml Batchelder jr., have assumed the duties of their respective offices, – and the necessary transfer of the books and papers from the late Treasurer and Secretary, Mr. Coolidge has taken place, in accordance with the vote to the Trustees. Mr. MacKintosh, the Treasurer, has given the required Bond, and Mr. Batchelder has taken the oath of office as recorded.

The receipt of H. B. MacKintosh of the evidences of property which has been passed into his hands as Treasurer of the Corporation is hereto annexed

Trustees. .

your Committee have found the same duly and properly vouched, and the evidences of property correct, as recorded in the books of the Corporation. They have charged off, as loss to the Corporation, a twenty dollar counterfeit note, received by the late Treasurer in his official capacity.

Your Committee would also recommend, in view of the long and valuable services rendered by the late Treasurer and Secretary, that his salary from to be at the rate of $2000. per annum for the office of Treasurer, and $1500. per annum for that of Secretary, and in accordance with these views would unanimouusly report the acompanying vote.

Voted. – that there be allowed and paid to Austin J. Coolidge, as Treasurer from to at the rate of $2000. – per annum, and as Secretary for the same period of time at the rate of $1500 per annum."

Report accepted, excepting Vote.

Voted. – that the above Report of the Finance Committee, – with the exception of the Vote therein recommended, – be accepted and placed on file.

Substitute A.J. Coolidge. Compensation to. for Extra Services.

On motion of Mr. N. J. Bradlee the following Vote was adopted as a substitute for the Vote recommended by the Committee,.

Voted, that there be paid to Austin J. Coolidge the sum of Two hundred and fifty dollars as compensation for amounts paid by him for extra services.

Trustees,

Bond, Receipts Accounts to be recorded.

On motion of Mr Turner it was

Voted. – that the Abstracts of Account of the outgoing Treasurer, the receipt of the new Treasurer together with his Bond, all of which papers were submitted by the Finance Comittee as accompanying their Report, be spread upon the record.

[See record of the same at p. 10]

Bond of Treasr, &c. placed in charge of the President.

On motion of Mr. Livermore it was

Voted, – that the Bond of the Treasurer, together with his receipt for the evidences of property delivered to him, be placed in the custody of the President. [This was done , by the Secretary.]

The President signified his willingness to receive the aforesaid papers and deposit them in his own safe.

Unfinished Business

The Secretary then read from a Memorandum book made by Mr. Coolidge a list of various matters not finally acted upon by the several Committees or by the Board.

Com. on Birds in the Cemetery.

A partial report was received from Dr. Brewer in behalf of the Special Committee appointed , to consider the expediency of the protection, encouragement and introduction of birds within the Cemetery", and asking further time.

Voted,– that the report of the Committee be accepted, and that they have leave to sit again.

Comn from Gardner Brewer. adn on Horseback

A communication from Mr. Gardner Brewer respecting admission to the Cemetery on horseback together with the endorsement of the late Secretary to the effect that he had issued to Mr. Brewer upon payment of Ten dollars a permit dated , for admission on horseback for one year from date, having been read it was

Voted, – that the said Letter and endorsement be placed on file.
