sum expended - whereas if the statues should be placed in
the Chapel, it is very evident that, during the twelve years
they would not increase in value.

In conclusion, the undersigned would recommend
the passage of the following votes _ to wit: _

That it is inexpedient to place the statues of Govr
Winthrop
, James Otis & John Adams in the Chapel
or Grounds of Mount Auburn. _

That a Committee be appointed with full powers
to carry the suggestions contained in this report regarding
the Statues into effect, in such manner as they may
deem expedient.

All of which is respectfully submitted

Foundation for statues to be placed in Chapel _

Voted that the building Committee of the Chapel be
instructed to place a foundation en each corner of the same
beneath the floor thereof, to receive the four marble statues
intended for the Chapel whenever they shall have been
completed & delivered to the Corporation. _

Mr Curtis presented the following memorial respecting
the Story Statue Fund, signed by a majority in value of
the subscribers thereto: which was read, & it was

for the purchase of a Statue of the late Mr Justice Story,
respectfully represent to the Trustees of the Cemetery of
Mount Auburn, that the sums subscribed by them

Of note: the discussion of the wisdom of spending money on statuary which began on page 75 concludes with the minority report against spending on same statuary (Winthrop, Otis, Adams) stating that the contracts for statues o be rescinded. Followed by a report from the Committee on the Chapel recommending building foundations for the four statues under the floor of the Chapel to receive the statues when
completed.
