Trustees Records 1857.-8 ~

Trustees

In accordance with notification duly issued con-
formably to the By-Law requiring the first meeting of
the Trustees to be held within two weeks after the
Annual Meeting of the Corporation, the Trustees
met at the office of the Secretary on _

There were present _

The President, Messrs Bangs, Cheever, Curtis,
Gould, Lawrence, Nazro, Read & Tisdale. ~

Dr Lawrence's qualified resignation

Dr Lawrence stated that he was elected last year
without being consulted. _ that he reluctantly accepted the
office for one year, _ that he had supposed that he had
verbally communicated to the Secretary his declination to be
reelected for the present year, but by some misunderstanding
the fact was not made public until too late, & that he
had consequently been reelected contrary to his wishes: _
that, as the Trustees had no power to fill vacancies,
he did not desire to embarrass the action of the Trustees
by an immediate and absolute withdrawal, if his with-
drawal might occasion such embarrassment: _ he would
therefore tender his resignation to take effect at such time
as the Trustees should see fit to act thereon. ~

Election of Officers &c

The Chairman announced the first business ^in order
to be the choice of Officers and Committees, and also
to fix the salary or compensation of officers for the ensuing
year. _
