Admission to Grounds Continued.

The question has been raised in regard to the
clause in the By-Laws allowing persons having
a relative or near friend interred in the Cem-
etery to enter on Sundays and Holidays –
whether they are allowed to enter in carriages?
The Committee understand that the object
of that privilege was, that any person who wished
to visit the grave of a relative or near friend on
the Sabbath, could be allowed to do so - but it
is not necessary for this purpose that they
should ride over the grounds, as they might do
on a week-day, for curiosity or amusement _
and the object sought for can be obtained without
that. The Committee therefore think that the
design of that clause was merely to allow them
to walk into the Cemetery, and they advise
that that construction be put upon it: _
Excepting, however, that individual Trustees,
the Secretary and Treasurer, for good cause
shown, shall have discretionary power to
admit visitors, in carriages, on Sabbaths
and Holidays.

All of which is respectfully submitted.

I thought it was a mistake on a previous page, but it appears that the transcriber is using the word, "committee" as a plural based on verb/noun agreement.
