On motion by Mr Nazro,

De Forest Safford was chosen Gatekeeper. _

Proposed Inquiry into department of Gardening _

Mr Tobey stated that a letter had been put
into his hands received from the Superintendent in
reply to an inquiry addressed to him by the Secretary,
as to the relation of the new system adopted last year
by the Trustees to the care of lots, and whether,
in case the office of Gardener should be discontinued,
or Mr Spooner should be released from his con-
nection therewith, in accordance with his known
wishes, the Corporation could or could not manage
this ^business as well as under a separate department and he read
the letter, the purpose of which was that it would
tend to the simiplification of the management of the
Cemetery, if all the work was done by the Corporation.

He therefore moved, for the purpose of further inquiry
upon the operation of this department of work,
that a Committee of three be chosen to inquire
and report on the subject of Gardener: _

Some objections being made, because a new contract
had just been entered upon with the Gardener, and
several gentlemen who were nominated by the Chair
