Report of Comee to nominate a Gate Keeper with power of temporary appointment.

The Committee to which was referred the nom-
ination &c of a Gatekeeper submitted their
Report: _

"The Committee appointed to select a Gate-
keeper and temporarily to appoint one beg leave
to report that having examined the different
applications for that office and seen the several
applicants, - upon a full consideration of the recom-
mendations presented, and personal inquiries
made they have appointed temporarily
George P. Southack,
a returned and wounded soldier, whom they also
recommend for appointment by the Trustees as per-
manent Gatekeeper.

Mr Southack, as they have been informed, was
an Orderly Sergeant in the 2d Mass. Regt of Infantry,
was wounded in the arm and discharged _ again
enlisted in the 61st Mass. Infantry and remained
in service until the Regiment was mustered out in July
last. He has since then been employed for a part of
the time in the office of the Adjutant Genl as Clerk, but has
recently been discharged, there being no further occasion
for so large a number of Clerks. He is married, and, as
he states, has no property or means of support. The
Committee feeling that a soldier who has served so faith-
fully during the war and had been wounded in
such a manner as to disable him from returning
to his former occupation _ that of a Pianoforte tuner _
is more deserving of the consideration of the Trustees,
