Dear Sir

Some time ago Mr Story handed me your letter dated July 1st 1856 stating that the Trustees of the Mount Auburn Co had paid my draft, but that they found some difficulty in doing so because I had not fulfilled that part of the contract which requires me to convey to the Trustees my large model. Nothing but my ignorance of the necessity of doing so prevented me from fulfilling the contract to

the letter.

When Mr Story handed me your letter the statue was so nearly completed that I thought I would not write until I could say that the statue was on its way home. It is now shipped and I hope soon to hear of its safe arrival in your city.

I was glad to hear that you were pleased with the photographs, the statue itself will I am sure give still greater satisfaction.

I shall leave for America in the course of a week and hope to have the pleasure of seeing the statue mounted

on its pedestal before my return to Rome.
