"And transmit to the Secretary monthly,
the orders for such interments to be revised and
recorded on the duplicate Registers, one of which
shall be kept at the office in Boston, and one
at Mount Auburn."

It will be understood that the foregoing does
not add to the personal duties of the Superintendent,
as he has a man under him whose whole duty it is to
superintend funerals, and keep the record of them
at the Gate: and what is proposed as an addition
to the by-law above is already the practice. --

Art. 9. Gatekeeper --

In addition to what was said on last
page under this head (in connection with Treasr )
I will mention. --

That the Trustees some three years since
passed a vote in connection with the Gatekeeper's
salary, allowing him in addition thereto, "seventy
five cents per week to enable him to compensate a
substitute whom he shall procure to perform
his duties as Gatekeeper one half of every Sabbath" --
since which this allowance has been made annu-
ally. And as this exception appears to be established
in his favor, the By-law should be made to read
after the word "week" in the 3d line. --

"Excepting one half of the Sabbath, when he may
employ a substitute, who shall be satisfactory to the
