Dear Sir: --

In February of 1867 I wrote
you requesting a report on the lot of the late
Benj. Humphrey 1341 on Cedar Av. for perpetual
repair. You examined said lot, and instead of
sending me a report wrote: --

"I have examined the
Humphrey lot. It requires to be regraded and
resodded; especially its banks are very mossy. The
pedestal which is attached to the figure which is with
the same composed of one block of marble, is slightly
cracked. The die of the monument is cracked in four
or five different places and one of its cracks is a
bad one, and probably the piece will come off in the
course of twenty years".

I sent your letter to Mr Humphrey, who now
says that the heirs have reached a point where
they wish to make a contract for repair: but
in consequence of the uncertain condition of
the monument they propose to assume the
perpetual care of that.
