What do do when only the lst digit of the year appears on the date of the letter. Following the chrnological order of the previous letters, in this case the letter was written in 1888, but only the last "8" appears. Do we insert the presumed date in some way?

Please write out the date exactly as it appears in the original then add the full year after it in single brackets so Sept. 24 8 [1888]
