Copp’s Hill Burying Ground

Established in 1659 as [[Boston, MA|Boston's]] second cemetery, it is located in the North End neighboorhood and was originally named the "North Burying Ground." It contains more than 1200 marked graves, including the remains of various Bostonians from the colonial era into the 1850s. On the Snow Hill Street side are the many unmarked graves of the African Americans who lived in the "New Guinea" community at the foot of the hill. In addition to the graves, there are 272 tombs, most of which bear inscriptions that are still legible. It is now administered by [[Boston's Cemetery Division]].
