This morning got up to get breakfast, and rather
distinguished myself by making some stewed beef
so hot with pepper that it could not be eaten -
I did'nt care though, for it passed off with a
laugh, and nobody thought any the worse of me
for a small mistake - The toast was excellent.

Thursday, Sept. 16.
Last night we had a letter from Father. They
are there safe and sound - Yesterday noon
on coming home from school I found a house
full of company - the Parson's uncle Benjamin,
Uncle Spaulding, Aunt Jerusha, Annie and Borad
The Spauldings I was exceedingly happy to see
particularly Annie, who I have not seen before
for a number of years - She is a dear, good
girl and has not altered a bit that I can
see - Mr Bartlett paid me a visit yesterday,
and staid some time, during which time my
children behaved full as bad, if not worse than
usual - I dont think he could have formed
a very high opinion of me as a teacher but
I hope before he comes again to have them in
better order - I have begun today to be real ugly
pick them up for small offences and have whipt
more of their hands than I should care to count.
My greatest error has been letting little things pass
unpunished - Had three new scholars, and with
