Dear Mrs. Rölvaag, --

I have been delayed in getting the money I promised you, but expect it this week.

My mother died on June 27, and I spent some time on the farm after that.

Yours sincerely,

A. C. Erdahl

1537 East 32 Street, Minneapolis, Minnesota, July 22, 1941.

Dear Mrs. Rölvaag, --

I enclose a cashier's check for $14.00 for one year interest. I am namely owing interest since the summer of 1938. This will pay interest till summer of '39. It shall be my earnest aim when school opens to pay back- interest as soon as I possibly can, and to begin paying on principal.

We took a $400.00 cut in salary again during last school year.

I had hoped to pay more now, but expenses have been so many.

I am going down to Frost tomorrow to stay for a few weeks.

Kindest greetings!

A. C. Erdahl

MRS. O. E. RÖLVAAG 311 MANITOU NORTHFIELD, MINNESOTA

Jan. 23 - 1942

Dear Mr. Erdahl -

I've been going over my accounts today and have made out a statement of your note & payments.

As you see I have computed the interest from one payment to the next. As you see in most cases the payments you have made have been less than the interest up to that time. As you know it doesn't seem right to pay the one yrs interest any time from 1 yr. or more after it is due.

It would simplify the accounts ever so much if each years interest

could be paid on time - or on a definite date. Of course I had hoped that you would soon be paying off the principal too.

I'm well aware of the difficulties you teachers have met - but I too am [?]

I am sending you a copy of my figures, trust they are correct. If they are not please let me know.

Sincerely,

Mrs. O. E. Rölvaag.

P.S. I don't know whether you had paid the first years interest or not, I'm under the impression that you had not - there is no indication of it on the note - and I believe Rölvaags correspondance with you will tell that but I leave that to you for the present

Dear Mrs. Rolvaag, --

I have for some weeks seriously wanted to answer your kind letter. It was very considerate of you to assume the kind attitude you did. And I am resolved to pay what I owe you as soon as I possibly can. And I sincerely believe that you will not have to wait so long from now on.

Your tabulation of what I have paid and am owing agrees with my figures almost to a cent. I had the principal down to $189.00 some years ago. I have not paid its interest for the two years previous to the summer 1841. At $13.00 a year that interest would amount to $26.00. Adding the $26.00 to $189.00 would amount to $215.00, or twelve cents more than your figures indicated, namely $214.88.
